Hey Guys! Sorry it's taken me so long to get things updated.... Things are crazy with Christmas. Thankfully the Taylors have kept you up to date on their end.
Here is one of his last letters, posted on December 4th
Hi Parent Units.
I miss you faces lots! I made a Christmas List, it's a pretty good list. None of them are necissary but you said to thing about it. So I did.
Right now we have 4 people with baptism dates set but we think only 2 of them will keep them. But on the bright side, we are planning on setting 4 more this week! Miracles are happening here in Penn Yan! Yesterday at church, 3 of our recent converts bore, boar, boor, beared? their testimonies.
There's this video we watch with people this time of year and it's got tons of scenes from Temple Square during Christmas time. It makes me sad. And in the Joseph Smith movie at the Hill Cumorah, they do a fly over of Temple Square and then it flies west and I saw the Smoke Stack! It made me so excited and homesick! Also I found a tree and lights and decorations in the closet! Nichols hates it, it made me homesick but it looks way good! Miss you! Love you!

A Good Visual
11 December 2012
This week Elder Johnson's got a couple of great visual descptions going for his life in New York.
We all laughed at this letter, and Shelly and I called our sons to repentance based on Boone's request.
We sent his Christmas box off this week, so hopefully he'll get it from the mission office before next Tuesday.

Baptisms aren't the sign of success...
4 December 2012
This week's letter was different than those in the past, this one stuck to a single subject and didn't feature Ninja Squirrels. Boone's handwriting is even getting more legible.

I got called as...

To Ma & Pa
Hi! How are you? for some silly reason I forgot where this sentence was going. oh well.
This week has been insane! Elder Preisendorf, Ben now, went home on Tuesday so we went to the temple! We've been with Elder Morrison all week keeping appointments in both Penn Yan and Canandaigua. We met this funny German woman named Geisela. She's from Stadt Rehau or something like that. She's way funny.
We went to see a convert and his wife get sealed in the temple on Saturday which was way cool! President Christianson was there so we got to ask him anything we wanted because we were in the temple! He's way smart! So we decided to go to the temple again today! The temple is so cool! There's a window that looks out over the grove. It's so cool. And there are stain glass windows all around the temple that are trees so it's like you're in a grove anyway! I love the temple. usually we only get to go once a transfer but the president said we're okay. I LOVE THE TEMPLE!
It's my 2 month anniversary today!
miss you! LOVE YOU!
Elder Johnson.
PS I got called as district leader so, I'm pretty awesome! Love you!
PPS I need a wall/desk calender for next year

The Taylor Connection
The Taylor Family unofficially adopted Boone many years ago (We've shown a DRAMATIC decrease in the consumption of milk in the past couple of months!) Fortunately for us, Elder Boone Johnson has been rather consistent at sending us letters, so I will be adding our letters to this memory wall!
Rather than individually post each of the past letters, I'll use this post as a "Catch Up" with the last few letters then will post them going forward:
Since Boone fails to date his letters, I'll use the postmark date for them.

This letter also included "Important Scriptures for Life" on the back page

Apparently Mr. Humility is a "Goliath" in the spirit. :)

"Scriptures of Wisdom" on the back page

John Taylor came third we know...
11/12/12
To: My Parents.
Time is actually going by really fast, relatively speaking. I've been in the field for a whole month now! My first baptism is
on Saturday! I don't know if I'm actually baptising but that doesn't matter! I'm way excited though! Elder Preisondorf goes home next week so we get to keep his companion for a week. But that's okay because Elder Morrison is way cool. He played football for the U and when he gets home he wants to play rugby for them. Elder Nicholes is going home a week before next transfer is over so I don't know what I'm going to do. I suppose they will put me with Elder Morrison and his companion. John Taylor came third we know.
I hope California rocks this year. it's going to be sad when I realise that you're there and I'm frozen in 80 feet of snow! My biceps are getting huge though ish. I want to go to the temple but it's closed for cleaning. It should be open again soon though... Well, I love you!

Broken Plane
So it would seem that I skipped a letter! oops! This one was postmarked October 23rd.
Hi Mom and Dad!
So the plane in Detroit was broken, but they flew it anyway and because of this we couldn't land in Rochester so we flew to Syracuse. which is an hour and a half outside our mission. We got to the mission house at 9:00 instead of 4:00. President and Sister Christanson are SOOOO nice! but they go home in 8 months so they leave in May or June which sucks because of how amazing they are.
In the email when I said "Amish Paradise" I was wrong. They are called Mennonites. They are different from the Amish because they use electricity more than actual Amish people. I miss all my friends pre and post MTC. It's kinda lonely with just me and Elder Nicholes who sleeps with a fan on. Thank you for the box! it is everything I dreamed it would be. I need to find a smaller box because I have things to send to you! I have 2 leaves from the sacred grove and some stuff from the MTC. Every time I get homesick I smell my olive oil because I got it from dad's supply and so it smells like I could cook with it. I miss you and love you. Always remember that. I'll be home before you know it. Love you.

Canandaigua
Hey! Sorry it's been awhile. To say things have been crazy busy would be an understatement. It doesn't help that Elder Johnson is taking his sweet time with his letters. But here is the latest news from Boone!
Hi Parents.
First things first. If Sydney needs to go on a mission she will know it. However marriage is not an option until September 2014. I get home on the 29th. So don't nag, just light pushes. Tell her that she and Parker should not see eachother as much until he decides where he is taking his life.
Penn Yan is well, there's nothing broken after the hurricane so that's good. I couldn't write to you last week because we got stuck in Canandaigua. I was with Elder Preisendorf for 2 days last week. He's way cool but he's going home soon. I met the girl of my dreams last week. I know it's not what I'm here for BUT wow she's great. She's not in my area though, which is good. She's in a different area.
My biceps are freaking huge! I'm getting jacked! Also my first baptism is on the 17th! Darlene is great! We took her to the the sights ans she knew what needed to happen! It was awesome! Good times! Thanks for the jacket!
Love you!
Elder Johnson
So he sounds alive and well. And hopefully we will hear more soon. He facebooked me last week and said that they might send him and his companion to New York City to help with the hurricane clean up. We'll keep you posted.
Thanks!!

Hurricane...
Here's the news from Elder Johnson's mission president concerning the weather in New York:
Dear Parents of New York Rochester Missionary
We did not see the predictions here in Western New York that were expected. We had some rain and wind over night, cloudy and calm this morning. Missionaries are all back to normal schedule. We always appreciate all of your prayers and support. We love our missionaries.
President Jack R. Christianson
So all is well thanks for all of your prayers :) And for fun here is a letter from Boone to our good friends, the Taylor's

I have an accent?
It was my first week in the field! I got put in a small area called Penn Yan! My trainer's name is Elder Nicholes and he is awesome! We found 3 investigators and no one has yelled at me yet. The entire Penn Yen Branch could fit in the first two rows in the chappel back home but they are really nice peopel. Last night a family invited us to dinner and the curry was so spicy i thought my face was melting. people have commented on my accent, and the weird part is, i dont have an accent! all the buildings here are really old and theres a lot of ahmish people riding in buggies. they dont like us very much. We have 4 people with baptizmal dates but we might have to push those back. my companion likes to lift weights and i like to let my metabolism exercize so he makes me lift with him. i might be muscley when i get back to utah. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! anyway thats this weeks update! love you! miss you!

Amish Paradise
We got Boone's first email from New York today!! So here goes:
Hi! Our plane was broken so it couldn't land in Rochester, so we had to fly to Syracuse instead. we got to the mission home at like 9:00 at night! it was pretty fun though. My companions name is Elder Nichols, he is from a town close to Provo that i don't remember the name of. my area is called Pen Yan. its a really small town with tons of chain smokers and old cat ladies. I'm proceliting in an Amish Paradise. Seriously though, there are buggies EVERYWHERE! On Saturday We are taking some investigators to the Smith family farm and the sacred grove and the hill Cumorah. I cant wait! We went and bought groceries last night (because i didn't have any) and i bought enough to keep me happy for probably 3 weeks and it was pretty cheap. i might be in this area for 6 months but my companion only has 12 weeks left! What happens when he leaves and i still cant speak english?! Also i need a Jacket cause its getting cold but its not cold enough for my coat yet and i cant use my Bob Firman Hoodie because that says stuff on it. i can only where that on p day. the rules for jacket are dark colors and it can only have a small brand symbol. Also this is a FaceBook using Mission so i have to be on facebook for an hour everyday. its pretty cool that we preach through facebook. anyways love you and i gotta go. lots to do! P.S. Nutella is huge here. Love you!
Elder Johnson
We are so excited for him! Although we are concerned about the whole language situation... that English is though to learn!
I googled Penn Yan and it is just south east of Rochester... It only has about 5,000 people, which is crazy. I'm sure they will all know who he is by Friday! I'll be sure to keep you posted when we hear something new but in the meantime here is a vid of Elder Johnson and his roommates at the MTC:
Thanks again! Please write!
MTC Photos.... at last!
Today a magical thing came in the mail... an SD card with photographs and videos of E. Johnson's life at the MTC. It's just nice to have visual proof that Boone is alive... and hasn't made the other Elders absolutely crazy yet. So here you go... We'll start with photos and if you are feeling SUPER adventurous you can meander to the videos. They are very profound?
I can offer you NO explanation of these photos I hope you liked them.
Thank you so much to everyone who is offering their support to my baby brother. It means the world. I'm sure, now that Booney is in New York he would LOVE to hear from you. Please write to him! We love you!!

Camp Fire in July
October 9, 2012
Hi Mom and Dad
I met an elder from Italy and he spoke little to no English. It was fun. We started drawing pictures on a napkin to communicate. I wish you guys would write me back. I've gotten 1 from each of you and 2 from Sydney. And a box from the Taylors. I'm sending one of the memory cards home on Monday. It's got pictures and some videos. Be sure to show the ones with Fred to the team and the ones with the fork to Clay.
I'm terrified of the dryers here. For some reason they are "hotter than a campfire in July"... as Elder Gale puts it. I need to figure out how to take the crap out of the collars of my shirts. They look really yucky on the inside. Beach volleyball is keeping me from getting fat! This place is great! I'm so happy I'm leaving on Monday! Quarantine is getting really old! the videos on the card are kind of silly! So don't be surprised if you laugh. I miss you lots and lots. Be happy. Cuddle my cat. WRITE ME BACK.
Say hi to the team.
love you
Boone!

Laundry and Boise State
October 2, 2012
Dear Mom and Dad,
Hi. It's my P-Day and I'm doing laundry. It's freaking packed in here. So I went to put on a pair of pants and the waist is 3 times bigger than me. But for reals, they're huge. My district is so cool. We're 24C. There's 10 of us, 5 going to Rochester and 5 going to Seattle. The MTC is like college mixed with quarantine! But we get gym time and Temple time and personal time with our companions. The food is seriously broken but marshmallow mateys are open for every meal. 300 Elders came in the day we came here. More are on the way tomorrow.
It's a good place and I'm glad I'm here. I met a ball player who played for Boise State! Highlight of my life!
Be Strong, have faith, love endlessly,
Endure to the End!
Love you!
Boone
To the Team,
We share personal experiences and my favourites to share are when I was coaching you people. I miss you guys so much. It's hard to only have one hour to exercise. Me and Fred are making tons of friends! We event went to the temple!
Run hard at region and DON'T EMBARRASS ME! I brag about you to the Elders so don't suck!
Work Hard! Run fast!
Love you guys,
Elder Coach Johnson

Ham
We got our first letter from Elder Johnson yesterday!!!!
September 27, 2012
Hello Family!
This is crazy! My companion's name is Elder Voracek. He's pretty cool. He runs like me! He is going to Seattle.
There's something wrong with the ham. I'm farting a lot. I didn't find anything in my first Narnia hole but I"m gonna check the second one soon enough. I really like it here. The food is good and the people are nice.
Voracek writes computer programs. I'm already learning so much and my teacher served in Alaska. He's really funny! I saw Jared Bertrand. He's happy. Love you. Write again soon!
Love
Elder Johnson
So he's alive and well... minus the whole ham situation! Until next time!

The Beginning!
Hello! Sydney here!
So this is primarily for family and friends to keep track of my baby brother Boone, as he serves a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Rochester, NY! The only problem is (hopefully) I will be leaving to serve my own mission in the next couple of months. So here is the sitch, if all goes to plan you can keep track of BOTH of us... and maybe even our parents too... that is if I can convince them to keep posting things. NO promises BUT in the mean time I will keep you as up to date has humanly possible.
Today we dropped Elder Johnson (SO weird calling him that) off at the MTC. Our parents are a little... and by a little, I mean a lot... paranoid of being late so we left from Tooele around 9 am. E.J. didn't need to report to the MTC until 12:45... so we had some time to kill. On the way out of town we stopped at the Stockton Miners Cafe for some FANTASTIC breakfast.
When we got to Provo there were some last minute errands to run... alarm clocks and umbrellas to buy. CTR Clothing has been fantastic to work with. I'm pretty sure that Daddy wants to volunteer there. Then it was off to Brick Oven. One of our Institute teachers swears by that place. They give the missionaries goody bags... which is apparently a big deal.
Finally our time was up and we had to drop E.J. off curbside. I would be lying if I said there weren't some... or a lot... of tears. I'm not sure if any of you know how this works, but you pretty much pull along the curb, unload the bags, give your last hug and then said missionary is whisked away by a fellow missionary wearing a "host" name tag. It seriously takes 30 seconds max. From the family end of things, you are sort of in shock until you get about half way home. In all the craziness our poor missionary forgot his goody bag in the car. I can picture the panicked look on his face when he realized he had forgotten it. Methinks Mum and Dad will be sending it via care package within the next couple of days.
We are SO SO proud of the decision Boone has made to serve a mission. I am SO jealous that he gets to start his adventure before me but I cannot wait to hear the stories. In the meantime, if you wish to hear stories from the man himself you can either 1) Write him using dearelder.com (you type the letter out like an email and they will send it to him for free at the MTC) or 2) Write to him at the following address:
Elder T. Boone Johnson
MTC Mailbox #131
NY-ROCH 1015
2005 N 900 E
Provo, UT 84604-1793
I would like to take this time to thank all of our family and friends who have been super supportive especially as we've tried to get Boone gone ;) You are all wonderful and LOVED!
Until Next Time!
